Discovery Education Assessment: Early Skills
Understand students' skill level through a series of short tests that measure early reading and math development. Educators can initally assess and continually monitor the progress of students in early reading and math literacy. These tests provide important diagnostic information on a full range of skills, including:
- Phonemic Awareness
- Phonics
- Vocabulary
- Comprehension (Listening / Reading)
- Fluency (uses DIBELS Reading and Discovery Math)
- Number Sense and Operation
- Algebra, Measurement, and Geometry
- Data & Problem Solving
Early Skills evaluates individual student development and identifies poorly developing skills before students are put at risk for persistent academic underachievement.
Features:
- Given three to five times a year (scope and sequence and end-of year tests) with more frequent fluency probes as may be necessary in a "Response to Intervention program"
- Provides measures of reading and comprehension, and components of these skills
- Measures all five literacy skills identified by the National Reading Panel and the concerns identified by the National Math Panel
- Administered printed or online (including an option that reads items aloud to the student when appropriate)
- Presents teachers and parents with clear and easily understood reports on student skill level and progress
- Taken largely in a group setting, Early Skills Assessments offer flexible administration options that minimize the educator workload presented by time-consuming, one-on-one assessment systems. ESA maximizes multiple choice self-scoring assessments and includes teacher scored fluency probes
Reports:
Early Skills reports allow educators to quickly and easily identify mastered, partially-mastered, or non-mastered skills, enabling educators to readjust instruction to fit the needs of each individual student. Early Skills can be used to support the benchmarking required to support a "Response To Intervention" instructional support system.
